Thin guitar finishes

I thought it was time to start a fight over a subject that should never had been raised in the first place. Thin Guitar Finishes vs Thick guitar finishes. I once had a fellow tell me that he heard that a thin guitar finish was better than a thick guitar finish. Then he somehow carried that over to a solid body guitar. Well, I rubbed my three remaining brain cells together and concluded that there might be some validity to it if it was applied to a lightly braced hollow body guitar. A really thick finish might actually dampen the vibration of a Hollow body flat top or a carved top arch top guitar. I'm pretty sure the finish on a solid body guitar's finish would have little or no dampening effect on a well made solid body guitar. Has anybody else heard this MYTH
I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
